I guess i'm just gonna keep my Trooper since i haven't had hardly any interest in it. I guess i'm just gonna take the money i have and buy something that i can play with and keep the Trooper as my DD. I'm wanting to spend less than $1500 and find a rig that runs and drives good. I've been looking into either getting an XJ, an early 80's model Toyota truck, one of the older Troopers, or something of the sort. Which would be my best bet out of the one's i've listed? I'm not looking into putting a big lift or something on one of these rigs i'd probably just cut it up and put tires on whatever i got because it's not gonna see anything too serious. If you have any more suggestions just let me know. Thanks!

i dont think your going to find any of those for $1500. well, maybe an XJ

check the for sale section. i think theres a dodge ramcharger for $1500.

Of the ones you named an XJ would probably be the best starter 4x4.

Yeah i've found several late 80's model XJ's for sale for around that price.

For 1500 bones, you should be able to get an XJ, budget boost it ($100), cut the fenders as much as possible (free), weld the rear end (almost free) and get some used 33s ($300).
If it's really goin gto be a trail-only rig, ir dosn't have to be pretty or in good shape.

Haha yeah that's what i plan on doing i'm just gonna beat the hell out of it but i'll drive it to work and around town also but it's not like it's gonna be daily driven or anything. I'm going to look at a couple Jeeps today so i might just be coming home with an XJ today :)

I got my first gen toyota pickup off of a guy on here for 1200. Had 4.7s in the case, locked front and rear, and the propane conversion. Granted it took A LOT of work and money to get it where it is now...but deals are to be had. I could have wheeled it like it was (no dash, rusted floors, no bed, saggy ass springs) but it wouldnt have been perfect.

There are deals out there.

You should also consider a Samurai.

X's 2 on the above: IMO you'll spend more on the XJ to get the same strenght as the stock toy staight axles. Check the Facelift build and contact him, he can lead you on the path of running 38's with little or no lift. No his is no where near stock but it evolved just like everyone elses and ran along time on smaller tires and stock axles.

I am running 38.5 SXs on rears up front and Explorer leaves out back.

Maybe 2 or 3 inches of lift.
