I received a free pull behind bbq pit because the wheel and bearing assembly exited stage right while going down the highway and dooder doesn’t want to fix it. Overall build quality is good and it’s fully functional on either propane or coals. Originally the axle was a 4” square tube welded the width of the smoker with what look to be spindle/ Hubs/ brake assembly from some sort of European car hacked off and welded to the ends of the square tub. The axle assembly is an abortion to begin with so it’s going to get gutted and I’m going to just buy a cheap axle/spring setup from tractor supply and start fresh.
Question is, does this need lights/tag? What are the rules for this type of “trailer”? Pics to follow after this latest deluge has passed us by. I’m not trying to sink money in it more than getting it mobile and cooking dead animals on it!

No tags, if it's just and only a pig cooker, and there is not a pig on it. Put a grill, cooler, or storage box on it, and it can then be deemed a "cargo carrying trailer" and requires tags.

Can confirm here (search "pig" on the PDF): https://connect.ncdot.gov/business/DMV/DMV Documents/nc title manual.pdf

I'd put lights on it, just because, people.

I agree to all this. If it's a "tool" no tag. That's a pig cooker, a welder, cement mixer, air compressor, etc. If it has charcoal (or a propane cylinder) a pig, a cooler, welding gloves, air hose, concrete mix, etc it's now carrying property and needs a tag. Whether or not you'd get hassled is another story. I don't run tagson my cooker, I just make sure all the "accessories" and pig are in the truck bed til I fire it up.

If you can see the truck lights and it's under I think 4000 lbs a trailer doesn't need lights either, but I'd light it up because like ^ said, people are people (and probably texting)

As always you gentlemen are the best. I guess I asked because not being from here (despite living here on/off for a few years) I’m still learning the rules.
