what does everyone recommend and use for trailer hitches? I am tired of the crappy 40 dollar ones. I am looking at the weighsafe, b and w tow and stow etc. I have 2" and 2 5/16 trailers. I will either be buying 2 or swapping one between 2 trucks.
Just for curiosity's sake, what is so bad about a normal ball mount? This is generally an item that is the least aggravating of all the things that bother me.
I've got the B&W tow & stow and really like it. @Chris_Keziah picked one up not too long ago as well and I believe @CasterTroy has one as well.
Seems like a reasonable question to ask this group, and almost impossible to get a good answer from google, so...Just for curiosity's sake, what is so bad about a normal ball mount? This is generally an item that is the least aggravating of all the things that bother me.
Yeah, but you missed out on the joke...Seems like a reasonable question to ask this group, and almost impossible to get a good answer from google, so...
Is there any benefit to this style hitch over a forged one if you only have one trailer?
Fair enough, I didn't bother to click the link because I assumed you were being "that guy" (and I see I was right, for different reasons )Yeah, but you missed out on the joke...
Who makes a height adjustable 2" draw bar with three ball sizes, pintle arm, and a 16k rating?. I have 2 trailers and 3 pieces of towed equipment that use 4 different mounts (1-7/8", 2", 2-5/16", and pintle) and about 4 different heights. And the two that are the same height use different ball sizes. So carrying 1 adjustable hitch instead of 3 or 4 makes the most sense for most people.
I dunno.Who makes a height adjustable 2" draw bar with three ball sizes, pintle arm, and a 16k rating?
I guess the root of the question is that don't know why people need to carry the ball mounts in their vehicle; my trailers are at home and when I need one I grab the stuff I need from the garage that goes with that trailer. The WD hitch sits on the floor in the garage and the rest is organized (a few ball mounts, pintle, weight distribution bars, winch remote, ball wrench, spare hitch pins and lynch pins.) Yes, I hate changing hitch balls but I also don't like driving around with the ball mount on the truck when I am not towing something. Thus I have one for every need.Seems like a reasonable question to ask this group, and almost impossible to get a good answer from google, so...
Changing ball sizes can be a pain, especially if they have rusted threads. Carrying multiple hitches for multiple balls and multiple trailers, or never having the right one with you. And the two that are the same height use different ball sizes. So carrying 1 adjustable hitch instead of 3 or 4 makes the most sense for most people. Also, most adjustable drop hitches can be flipped to use on high stuff too. I would use my Weigh Safe in the flipped up position on the lowest setting so nothing was hanging down to drag over transitions.
That's basically where I'm at. I have 5 different hitches that live by the garage door or on/in the truck. The forged pintle and forged 2-5/16 setup live on the truck though, usually one in the receiver from whatever I pulled last and one in the toolbox.I guess the root of the question is that don't know why people need to carry the ball mounts in their vehicle; my trailers are at home and when I need one I grab the stuff I need from the garage that goes with that trailer.
