what does everyone recommend and use for trailer hitches? I am tired of the crappy 40 dollar ones. I am looking at the weighsafe, b and w tow and stow etc. I have 2" and 2 5/16 trailers. I will either be buying 2 or swapping one between 2 trucks.

I've got the B&W tow & stow and really like it. @Chris_Keziah picked one up not too long ago as well and I believe @CasterTroy has one as well.

I had a Weigh Safe with the scale and it was really nice. Only downside was having to grab the key and unlock the drop adjustment to change between balls. But that wasn't a big deal, it just always seemed to happen when it was raining or I was in a hurry. Only reason I got rid of it was because my current truck has a 2" receiver and the Weigh Safe was a 2.5".

I have a Bulletproof hitch. No complaints, would recommend.

I have a Weigh Safe 180 hitch (the one without the scale) and like it a lot. Stainless balls, both 2inch and 2-5/16 on the same hitch (just flip the ball over), and height adjustable. Still pricey, but it's got all the flexibility I need, so it's a "buy it once" item.

This one came with the trailer I just bought.. It is a class V with 2" and a 2 5/16" balls. It has locking pins but I have not used them yet because I pop the balls off and throw them in the toolbox to protect the innocent shins.I really like it so far and it really feels solid.

Just for curiosity's sake, what is so bad about a normal ball mount? This is generally an item that is the least aggravating of all the things that bother me.

Seems like a reasonable question to ask this group, and almost impossible to get a good answer from google, so...
Changing ball sizes can be a pain, especially if they have rusted threads. Carrying multiple hitches for multiple balls and multiple trailers, or never having the right one with you. I have 2 trailers and 3 pieces of towed equipment that use 4 different mounts (1-7/8", 2", 2-5/16", and pintle) and about 4 different heights. And the two that are the same height use different ball sizes. So carrying 1 adjustable hitch instead of 3 or 4 makes the most sense for most people. Also, most adjustable drop hitches can be flipped to use on high stuff too. I would use my Weigh Safe in the flipped up position on the lowest setting so nothing was hanging down to drag over transitions.

I carry a tri ball thingy in the truck that would suffice for the random case. I keep a forged insert of the correct drop with 2 5/16 ball for my car trailer in the storage box on the trailer.

Is there any benefit to this style hitch over a forged one if you only have one trailer?

Yeah, but you missed out on the joke...

Fair enough, I didn't bother to click the link because I assumed you were being "that guy" (and I see I was right, for different reasons :p )

Wander through the Pull-a-part.
You can get whole hitch for 25 bucks including the ball mount ..... which is 5-10 bucks by itself .... with a ball.
I have a storage area behind the back seat of my truck with a ball mount for each size ball.

Who makes a height adjustable 2" draw bar with three ball sizes, pintle arm, and a 16k rating?

I guess the root of the question is that don't know why people need to carry the ball mounts in their vehicle; my trailers are at home and when I need one I grab the stuff I need from the garage that goes with that trailer. The WD hitch sits on the floor in the garage and the rest is organized (a few ball mounts, pintle, weight distribution bars, winch remote, ball wrench, spare hitch pins and lynch pins.) Yes, I hate changing hitch balls but I also don't like driving around with the ball mount on the truck when I am not towing something. Thus I have one for every need.

That's basically where I'm at. I have 5 different hitches that live by the garage door or on/in the truck. The forged pintle and forged 2-5/16 setup live on the truck though, usually one in the receiver from whatever I pulled last and one in the toolbox.
