Trailer prices?

I just graduated from college and my dad is going to get me a trailer for a gift, but he also gave me a second option. If i can find a trailer for ~$1300 then he will also pay for a trip wherever I want to go (can you say moab/hammers?) I would like to do that, but I need to hit the budget (its more of a quest/game for him than anything for me to find one at that price). Does anyone know of a place in NC/SC/VA/around here that can produce a trailer for that? I want something lightweight bc i am towing with an F-150 for now, but obviously not aluminum bc that is out of the budget. My rig (in sig) weighs ~4k or less i would think (haven't weighed it) so i figure I need a 16 foot trailer, brakes on one (both?) axles, and either wood or expanded metal deck. Dont need ramps.

Anyone have any tips? Know of a place (or a used trailer) for sale? Thanks.

Thats my rig....wheelbase is about 112" if it helps.

Help me find the lightweight, <$1500 trailer that I need.

I haven't been following trailer prices much, but if you're going to pull from here to Moab and back, here's what I'd want to have, in addition to being 16-18' overall length, open center, wood deck, 83" between the fenders:

brakes on both
ST trailer tires, 8 or 10 ply

Federal DOT regs will specify brakes on both and a breakaway box, but I've seen countless trailers that don't meet this...

check with musgrave equipemnt on hwy 70 in between goldsboro and smithfield, they carry pj trailers, very nice for the money,i have a 18ft,diamondplate floor, electric brakes, dovetail,we paid a little over 1500.00,but with a wood floor should be cheaper

^ their site lists their car haulers at $1,925.

Anyone heard of Burke Trailers? They have a 16 footer, single brake for $1,650. I will probably add another brake for $100.

yeah with these people here cash talks very loudly and plus i didnt take in account we bought ours about 2yrs ago

RK tows with one, he says he's happy with it. Seems well made. It's a coincidence they share the same last name...no relation though

I have a Kaufman and love it. They used to list an open center car hauler on their website but do not anymore. Give them a call. I think they still had them when I picked mine up. You should be able to get one for a reasonable price.

yea, that worried me too. While that is an amazing deal, being built in 1994 could prove for some old, decrepit wiring/axle condition. That being said....for $1100 that stuff could all be replaced for still under the price of a new trailer.

I ordered one today 16 foot, dual 3500# braking axles, breakaway box, wood deck, 7x16 w/ dovetail.

Out the door for $1875. With a one week turnaround; not too shabby IMHO.
Not too bad, Lee. Mine is exactly the same, but with only one braking axle and I got it for just under $1600. It's served me well and has given me zero problems. Do yourself a favor and wait for the wood to dry out a little, then hit it with some good water sealer.
