Now that we've narrowed down our tow rig and are on the hunt. I'm turning my attention to our crawler hauler buildout. Ideally this will have a camper on the tongue and enough space to tow our 70 bronco OR our 89 Mustang. So a shallow approach angle is a big must have. With that being said, I know we are leaning towards a 30-40' gooseneck trailer with a 5th wheel camper mounted on the tongue (to utilize the space above the gooseneck) or a standard camper on the front. With that being said, has anybody towed a trailer this long around some of the parks/campgrounds around here? Anywhere that a low deck trailer wouldn't be recommended for? Windrock, gulches, Uwharrie, GER? Would hate to get invested into a setup and then find out it high centers everywhere we go. I wouldn't mind a deck over, but know that it's harder to find one with a shallow enough dovetail for how low out mustang is, even after removing the bumpers. I do also like the idea of the deck over for the option of running a tank under the rear to help act as a ballast when unloaded. Just looking for opinions for those who've towed these style trailers to the parks around here.
 
Windrock and GER won't be a problem, my group tows rigs like that to them regularly.

Uwharrie Arrowhead the upper loop RV spaces it could be a challenge, all the 40ft RV spaces are pretty generous in size, and the best slot for it would be the one pull thru site, 40. But don't go on a weekend I'm there, That's my spot... I've never stayed at Baden lake, but others here can speak to that. Would also be fine at Rausch Creek should you decide to venture that far north. I've never been to the gulches so can't speak to that either.
 
I mean depending on your budget, there are options…
Something like this is probably more practical

or car transport style trailer


would suit your needs for hauling the mustang. You might need some race ramps for the hydraulic dove tail depending on how long the dove tail is, but I always thought the skeleton frame of the transport trailers would make great crawler haulers. And they're usually cheaper.

But, I agree with zuke about access. I've seen big and low trailers at every place I've been around here so you should be fine with just about any trailer in your length range.

Load Trail, PJ and others all make gooseneck buggy hauler's. Low deck, drive over fenders, slide in ramps. Even on a hydraulic dove or hydraulic tilt, the approach angle is still about the same as a dovetail with mega ramps depending on deck height.
 
I used to tow a low deck, buggy hauler gooseneck that had 34' deck.
No real issues at Harlan, Windrock, Chocco, etc. I would drag the tail going up and coming down the hill to the Windrock campground. Just make sure nothing under there can get damaged.
Can't comment on URE as I only go for the GTG and park at the group camp.
 
I don't think you'll have too terribly much trouble getting a trailer like that around most wheelin places. Worst case, you might drag a little bit.

You've probably already considered this, but in case you haven't...with a low deck trailer, sometimes you gotta watch out for trailer fenders when you park a car and open the door. From that standpoint, a deckover might be advantageous for you, but comes with it's own loading challenges, which you mentioned.
 
I've got a 32ft deck over that drags the tail plate all over the place. Landing gear touches sometimes on aprons. NBD.
 
Your best option is gonna be a 2 car gooseneck. Mines a Kaufman 36. Can load the jeep with no ramps and it’s low enough to get my hot rods on it as well.
