I have Robert coming to get my truck and take it back to Shelby. I'm gonna limp the empty trailer home on the rear wheels only. I was going to swap the axle out but all the ubolt nuts are spot welded and the leaf spring bolts are too. Not a lot of choices at this point as the end is Fubar'd and I need to get home.
theres a guy on craigslist that has 8 more 5lug axles with brakes. 75bucks complete.
nice guy. i picked up 2 of them. lives in hendersonville? its up 49.
I greased all 4 hubs last month. Maybe 350 miles ago. There was plenty on the tire when I stopped. I think that axle was a little bent since new as it constantly chopped the tire. It will be straight now.
The easy lube axles are good and bad at the same time.
Good in that it makes keeping things lubed easy.
Bad in that its easy to forget to actually check the condition of things.
I still throw the floor jack under and jack each wheel and spin it by hand to feel how it spinning over, check for any bearing slop etc.. Hard to feel the slop with weight on it.
Here's the thing about looseness, though: If you assemble the hub according to the Dexter instructions, there's no way it won't be loose as hell when you're done. I put mine together a tad tighter than what Dexter says you're "supposed" to do, and they're still sloppy.
