Trailer winch

Looking at the badland winch and forgive my ignorance but wtf is that spring/cam thingy for?

My smitty on my trailer is a xrc8. It burned up a solenoid on the 3rd or 4th use. It was replaced no questions asked. They didn't even ask for proof of purchase or serial number. Just wanted my address and name. I was very satisfied with how they handled it. Since that which was probably in 09 it has worked without issue. My only complaint is it is a mother to pull the line out in free spool.

I have had a bad lands on my truck for 4 years and it has been used alot has never skipped a beat I sold the truck to a buddy last year and put a smitty biult in my buggy and I like the badlands better

Same here I had the badlands 12k on my trailer for 3 years never missed a beat

I'm with Rob it looks like a roller to keep the cable from balling up on the drum when you lose tension. However, I bet it would work better if it was mounted on the back of the winch as it could help keep the cable flat as it winds onto the drum. More junk to break but if it actually works that would be nice; I have helped re-spool steel cable that balled up and jammed a winch. No fun.

I've had and XRC8 on my trailer for a number of years now, only had one problem when the controller plug went bad. I replaced the plug and added a toggle switch like this one so I can still use the winch if the plug goes bad again . I have it on a receiver mount so I can move/remove the winch if I need to. After pulling up vehicles that are dead/broke/no tires/whatever I couldn't imagine having a smaller winch on the trailer. Only thing I want to change is go from 100ft of cable to 50ft.

The toggle is a great idea. The biggest problem w my Smitty is the plug is crap and years ago I went to in cab controls.

I agree w cable, no need for 100'. I've been thinking about getting a smitty w synthetic line and swapping it over to my rig and putting the cable on the trailer.

The plus about 100' of cable...

Once the first 50 gets kinked and damaged, you can cut it off and toss it and use the remaining 50' and have nearly newish cable again.

Smitty changed the plug to a better design and if you opt for the X20 it also come with the wireless option.
I have one on my buggy if you want to see it.

I really like the toggle because sometimes I leave the winch hooked as a safety or its hooked somewhere inconvenient to unhook and its so easy to just hit the switch to let out the slack instead of having to dig out the controller and plug it up.
