Train Horn

I can say from experience that a train horn is soo freakin loud....

An engineer blew a crossing once while I was on the lead end of a new widebody locomotive. Cool vid..

I need someone with a video camera to ride around with me some day, we could make our own little hornblasters video.. :)

I can say from experience that the SCHP do not think a train horn mounted to a vehicle s a good idea:shaking:

I have been looking at train horns for a while. I want one but the good ones are around $700 on up. I am going to get one eventually.

Look around truck shops.
Thats where mine came from. They tend to show up there for some reason

Think I paid $50. It was a little dinged up and had been on a semi (It wasn't the primary horn, he had it mounted on the landing pad right below where the glad hands hook up, he could pull right beside a car and blast it about 4-5 feet and at ear level :shaking: ) for 10+ years....but still in good shape.

I can make sure my in-laws are in the yard when you are driving home from work, and videotape their reaction when you drive by. :)

I rolled up behind someone on I-40 in a Nissan Sentra going 40mph the other weekend, no reason to go that slow other than that they were old. No hazard lights on. I was telling Jamie - if I had a train horn, it would have been used then! Which is probably why she doesn't want me to get one...

I got one of these! they are insane loud!!!

if you can picture this... I took off the solenoid valve and put a quick disconect fitting on to try it out, (my compressor is set to 125 psi) I popped the air hose onto the fitting and it went off. I ALMOST DROPPED IT AND RAN!!! Holy Fawkkkkk! Scarred the shit out of me! the neighbors across the highway came out of the house!

I've got about $400 into my setup, and lemme tell ya, they're great, but I've found while driving, you need to be cautious about how you use them-
  • If someone is going really slow and you hit the horn, they'll most likely SLAM on their brakes.
  • If they're waiting to turn right on red and are waiting for a fucking invitation, a green light, or to not see ANY other cars in the same zip code before they go, hitting the horn makes them go IMMEDIATELY, without looking, for at least a 1/2 second.. You could probably cause an accident if you hit it at the wrong time.
  • Strip malls echo well.
  • Movie theater entrances echo better than strip malls.
  • Caution to the above: there's usually a cop at the movie theater entrances in the evenings.. I'd bet they don't like getting scared, either.
  • Teenage girls scream the loudest when startled. (See: Movie theater entrances)
  • Half-asleep co-workers walking from their car to the door sometimes drop their coffee. (This cost me one cup so far, but it was worth it)
  • And, the MOST IMPORTANT item: putting the horns on remote control is the absolute BEST.. do make sure it requires a series to button presses to activate though, lest you scare the shit out of yourself. (If you have an alarm with a shock sensor, disarm the alarm or bypass that sensor first)

You guys are making me want one even more. Maybe I'll put the build on hold and get some. I hate people talking on Cell Phones and not paying attention to their driving. this way when they sit at a green light I can lay on the horn.

Do you guys run the ones that have 4 horns or a single?
I was looking at some Nathans but they are pricey.

Mine's the 4 single horns, and lemme tell ya, it was a PITA to mount.

Mine is a single horn, but it is 11" across at the "mouth" and about 3" tall. And it literally came off a train.

I'm not saying its the bestest or whatever but it adds a cool factor when folks say where did you get you train horn...

Oh yeah, the SCHP charged me with reckless endangerment and made me disable it (while he watched) before I could be allowed to leave the scene. So if you add that to the $50,which included a small air compressor that was later replaced(not included). I had $550 in my setup

ahh i really want one now, that'd be funny as crap, just gotta watch out for the man i guess, lol

It was kinda worth it. Heading to Charleston and this old hag stayed in front of me riding 45 in the left lane for like 10 miles. When I finally got over she also merged over clearly to block me, as I passed on the left after again changing lanes she looked at me and smirked. My horn was mounted under the bed right in front of the rear tire on my old F250. So when the back tires got door level :fuck-you:

So the beeeotch called the law, and 15 miles later I was pulled over...

Come to find out in SC no horn can be more than 89dB. Cop called a D.O.T guy who actually came out with a dB meter. His meter stopped at 150 and at 10 feet it was off the meter. at 15 it was in the 140s....

Yep I got one to, and 150psi will raise to roof, I learned don't do it in the house......

DAMN! I laughed all the way thru reading this!!! co-workers are looking at me funny as to why I'm at my desk gigggling like a school girl trying not to laugh out loud.

Mine is all made together and comes with a mounting bracket. I took it to work and hooked it up in the basement of a 40 story power plant and they heard it on the roof! the locomotives we have on site arent as loud as this horn! and the coal dust it knocked down! you will not be dissapointed!!!

I got one that came on my jeep when I bought it,he bought it off hornblasters.com its the conductors special and it is crazy loud.It was mounted under the front bumper facing the pass. side so when your riding down the street you can make them jump exspecaily the kids leaving the high school down the street from my house, but they will get torn off very easliy offroad and I found out the hard way. now I have to buy new horns and solenoid/valve.

here's a link to the same setup=http://www.hornblasters.com/products/details.php?item=HB4H3G28

I am going to mount mine under my excursion with 2 facing the front and 2 facing the back. I want it for those loud stereos that pull up behind me and those stupid cell phone drivers that don't pay attention. I am getting more and more excited to get this.

don't worry too much about which way they point.. Really. it doesn't matter alot. :D
