So there is a constant rattle coming from the transmission, it stops when i press the clutch. I have no idea with transmissions, this sound familiar to anyone?

More info? Does it do it when you're moving, sitting still, both? Does it do it in gear or in neutral while sitting still? Mileage? Could be as simple as a throw out bearing or as major as a tranny input bearing, but it's hard to tell without a better explanation.

Both... when in idle its a rattle that goes along with engine idle. Put in the clutch it goes away, put it in gear and drive, the rattle gets faster with the rpms. 105 k miles on it.

Onle last thing, does the rattle go away when you have the clutch in WHILE moving, say like when shifting?

Its the input bearing, it will blow up eventually if planning on rebuilding it better have it done now or it will end up costing more as it takes out other stuff.

Yes, whenever i press the clutch it goes away. Once in gear (or in neutral the rattle is present.

CPerry - how much is it to fix the input bearing? i have to put on a new front axle as well so might as well do it all at once.

I had the same problem with my SM465 in my Jeep. When I took it apart to put a new clutch in who ever installed the clutch before put the clutch disc in facing the wrong direction & the throw out bearing was installed on the fork wrong also. Throw out bearing is what was makinf the noise. Maybe this will help.

does it have any other problems? not to much if just the input bearing is being replaced but one would usually replace all the bearings and at least check the syncros replace if resonably inexpensive. new clutch kit as well. If just input bearing your looking at about $400 remove tranny replace input bearing reinstall. give me a shout if your interetsed i could give you a better quote when i am at the shop.
