I have a '79 J-10 with a 360 and T-18A tranny. Recently, my work transferred me to another plant 15 miles away. The J-10 is my DD. I was wondering if anyone here has done or has a link to an article about swapping in a 5 speed tranny. I just want to lower my rpm's while doing 65 mph. Hopefully improve fuel economy as well.

I ran one (nv4500) in my YJ with a 360. For the big bucks it will take to do the swap and the minimal return, it would be cheaper to get you a $1500 gas saver for a commuter. Just my 2 cents.

this method gets my vote. hard to beat something getting 30 mpg. that even covers the extra ins. done it for yrs. it also kept the miles of my tow rig.

Oh yes I know. Sometimes however the financial aspect rears its ugly head and wins out. I still drive my Chief weekly to get my fix though :D
