i got a 94zj with the 42re tranny... i blew my tranny up in it and i got another 1 to swap in,, my question is how hard would a straight swap be? is it worth me and a friend doing it in a weekend event or paying cottman transmissions 375$ to do it for me?
besides a torque wrench any special tools needed?

its not hard at all....go to autozone and buy the haynes manual for your truck....they fully cover a tranny swap...i doubt it would take you more than a day... you will need a rolling floor jack for sure...

If you never had done it I would say it depends on your personal skill level. A person can do anything with support, education & motivation.

My first repair I did was a clutch swap in a 5.0 mustang when i was 15 with VERY VERY minimal experience in cars or trucks.
It was a tough time but i think you could do it. Just remember what goes where.

thanks... i might try to tackle it with a friend after the new year... so i can buy some swivle sockets and a jack

I had a buddy with a terrible experience with Cottman

really?

bout year and a half ago my tranny wouldnt start in first at all, not even if you put it manualy in first, couple guys said i needed a rebuild maybe, i took it to cottman and told them i dont care how much it cost i just needed it done (was my dd then) and they had it for 2 days cost me 66$
65$ for a evaluation to find the problem and 1 $ for a fuse...

they could of easly made money off me and didnt..
