trans help?

ok so i just swapped in a t-176 into my cj and everything seemed to be working fine...input and output shafts tight, shifted fine, not a lot of slop n the shifter.

got it all bolted in and now it will only shift into reverse..took the top cover off, shifter forks all look good, shifter rails look ok, shifter rail balls and springs are all in place, moved the forks manually and everything seemed ok, even checked syncros and shifter rings and everthing was moving fine...

so lubed everything up and put top cover back on only to shift through the gears and once i hit reverse was never able to get it in any other gear but neutral

i'm at a lose as to whats going on...please help

were you able to shift it through all positions with the top cover off?
is the end of the shifter in good condition ?

not easily but i was able to get it to shift...do u think it could be the shifter itself?
