Trans.......th350 TV Cable

Well now I've identified the random cut off cable sticking out of my trans as the TV cable. Do I need to replace it? What has to be done to do so? What will I gain by doing so?
 
Thats the detent or as some call it a passing gear cable...it can be left unhooked as long as you leave a very short piece of cable attached and leave the bottom of the cable that attaches to trans alone...them cables for those who have a lead foot, when they stomp it it drops to a lower gear and gets the hell out of dodge...:)
 
Just RTV the hell out of it so it doesn't leak(it will if you don't) and leave it alone. Manual shifting is more fun anyway:driver:
