i have a 95 grand cherokee with the v-8 and awd.this vehicle has been parked for 3 years due to a bad engine.trans shifts fine but won't go to overdrive(had it up to 80 today and won't shift).before someone says it,i've already checked the od off button.it is not lit up and when it is it makes no difference.also, when the fan clutch goes bad does it freewheel(like old chevy)or does it lock almost solid?any help will be appreciated,gene.:driver::bounce2:

it can do either....it is suppose to "lock" and force air through the radiator when the engine is at operating temps. When they go bad they either never lock, or stay locked all the time.

if the od lite works, u need to have it scanned. a lot of time the fluide temp sensor is out of wack and it will not go into od or kick out of od to save it self if it was running hot. if all looks good and / or the fluid smells burnt. the od clutches may be burned up. od the od piston is leaking by. the od unit can be removed without pulling the whole trans..
