There are two bolt holes in the transmission that need to be widened, and the transmission output shaft needs about 1/8-3/16" ground off the end so it doesn't bottom out in the t-case input. You will have to flip the case to make the front output line up with your front axle. You will have to do something about the shifters, be it a flip kit (Down East Offroad, etc), cable shifters, or a custom mechanical linkage that goes out the back. When flipping you also have to relocate the vent line and maybe the speedo gear. You will also need yokes for CV (dual cardan) driveshafts front and rear, and most D300's don't come with those.
The advantages are a 4" longer rear driveshaft, stouter case, ability to twin stick it, and much cheaper 4to1 kits. The disadvantages are an extra 40 pounds, having to cut holes in your tunnel and console for the shifters, and maybe some other things that I can't remember.
