It's a miracle the OE Commando crossmember (formed hat-channel with the "brim" on the bottom = anchor) in the Moss has lasted this long, but got a "wee bit" tweaked this year at GMP coming down some steps (Copperhead Road?) well above her capabilities.

Planning a new crossmember (to gain both some clearance & ability to mount a skid) for Moab, but wondering if changing it from the crossmember (rigid) with a single OE rubber mount (directly below the "potmetal" TH400>D20 adapter) to spring-eye type bushings at the frame and rigid mounting the TC to the crossmember will be OK or cause too much stress for the adapter?

Meaning, the OE bushing allows engine/tranny/TC torsional movement (twisting) all together, 3 points of contact... where moving the bushings to the frame may not give as much and exert more pressure (IMHO) to the adapter?

Are you wanting to do something like this:

I was more illustrating that the trans adapter can be low profile mounted with a near-stock bushing/mount setup.

You can make the crossmember and skid setup look like whatever you want. ;)

Use softer bushings to match the motor mounts or make stiffer mm's. The adapter housings in general aren't very strong for torsional or impact loads in my experience.
