Can I remove this? I got trans fluid in coolant and I am in the process of removing everything and was considering leaving the auxiliary cooler off. Its a daily driver for a high school student.....no towing.
also can I use hose instead of solid lines for the trans lines to and from the radiator?
thanks......
Sorry...its a zj not an xj

fixed the title for ya

I read the post, had a reply for XJ in mind, but have no idea about the ZJ trannys, except they are different than the XJs (93 ZJ's w/4.0L ran AW$ like an XJ, but ZJ 94+ got the Chrysler trannys).

I would not take the cooler out of the tranny system, heat is an auto trannys biggest enemy. You can use rubber tranny line, double radiator clamps to the cut hardlines. On my XJ, I got the biggest aux. cooler AutoZone had and bypassed the in-radiator cooler, it might have been $30 or so. The aux. cooler uses plastic push-thru zip ties, clamps it to the radiator.

you can find them at the JY too. I do the rubber lines myself, but I put hose barb fittings on the transmission itself and went rubber all the way. there's a way to also put hose barbs on hardlines, but I forget the fitting magic(compression->hose barb).. I think you double flare the line and put a female to h.barb on. FWIW, if you have new hose it should be tight fit up on like 3" with two clamps be secure. I only have one clamp on my XJ and no failures.. of course some people swear up and down there is 60+ psi on those lines.. I don't think so, not at least on the AW4.
