I have a stock transmission cooler on my Tahoe witht he 5.7, and I have been told a good upgrade would be to put a bigger one in. What do you look for in a transmission cooler, besides whether or not it will fit.

supposedly the plate type of exchanges has a higher heat transfer capability than a tube&fin model of the same size (to me it seems logical, but actual performance may suggest a different answer)

Cool, thanks.

Anyone have any brands they prefer?

LOL, wow, thanks for the warning :D I am hoping to find one a little more wallet friendly than that one.

Is tube fin or plate fin better?

My guess is stacked plate is the same thing that some call plate fins?

Look up Hydraulic coolers.

b&m has stacked plate style.

OK, I found this cooler http://www.summitracing.com/parts/HDA-679/ and it fits my Tahoe, it is plate not tube. The only thing that is different about this one is the cooling material is steel not copper like most of the others. Which is better copper or steel or does it matter?

The one that Will posted is better. 11x10x3/4 Alum vs 11x6.25x3/4 Steel. Alum will dissipate heat quicker than steel. $80 and its right down the road from ya.
