Those who know me, know I have a '92 Dodge 12-valve w/A-518 automatic OD transmission. This morning I dropped the transmission pan to change the oil & filter. What I found laying in the bottom of the pan were some very nice-sized pieces of clutch material. I assume the material to be from bands as the pieces are curved

So... realizing that it's time for a rebuild I need to know who to take it to within a decent driving distance from the Concord/Salisbury area. I have had prior experience with Poole so that option is out for me. Right now I am leaning toward Frank Patterson in Concord. Recommendations please.

Don, for advice, I've been turning to Lee, but he is in Raleigh [I believe]. A local, Charlotte shop was recently recommended to me, but I don't know them. It's "Big Jims", on S.Blvd & 485, Charlotte/ Pineville. Jim & his #1 guy, Mike, are members of NC4x4.
I'm sure more members, will chime in!

I have been gone all weekend. I loaded up Granny 2 and hauled her to URE for CNC's Fall Bash. No problems, and if I hadn't pulled the pan, and saw the friction material, I would not even suspect anything was wrong. I talked to David Minton on Friday afternoon. He said he would talk to the person who does his transmission work and get back with me. I think highly of David and I completely trust him so if this works out I will be very comfortable with having his guy take care of it for me.

Thanks Rodney and Tom! If it doesn't work out with David I may take your reference as my plan-B. Appreciate ya!

David (3DCrawler) called me back this morning and has me fixed up. I will be taking the truck up to him this week. ThanX to all who responded!

Who is going to do the work?

You posted on Tuesday... sorry, I just now noticed it. :eek:ops:

I do not know the shop that is going to do the work. I went to Minton's Automotive (3DCrawler) in Granite Falls. I have known David for several years. If there ever was a true "stand-up guy", David is that person. David recommended to me a local builder that he uses. His word that the man does good work was all I need to hear. :)
