transmission identification

i've got an auto trans. sitting here and don't know what it is. I'm pretty sure it came out of a zj with 4.0 and 242 transfer case but don't know what the tranny is. It has a small square shaped oil pan...about 12'' by 12". anyone have any ideas?

What year ZJ? Probably an AW4.

id say AW4 or 42RE is it was out of a ZJ... might be diff if it was out of a YJ or TJ

I think it was a 94 zj with 4.0L I was thinking aw4, but it has a smaller oil pan than what i thought they had. Also, a guy said he needed a trany for his 91 xj, and i looked under it and it looked just like the one thats under my 99 xj...aw4, i guess. But it looked different than the one in question...Yea, i'm confused too
