Hey Guys, I had my trans go out last March on my jeep so I bought a replacement from a friend of a friend. The one he gave me would no line up on my transfer cass so I took it back to him and It took him about 5 months to supply me with a replacement for the first one (and I only go that one because I was going to call the law on him). Anyways, I get it all put together and that is trashed too. Loud clanking noises (even in neutrel) and reverse does not even work at all. I try calling the guy about it but he does not pick up or respond so I go to his house and he has skiped town. So now im out a transmission and the money i paid for it.

I have a 2000 wrangler with a external clutch cylinder. Does anyone have a trans that hey could let go at a reasonable price. I need to get this fixed ASAP!

Thanks for any help!
Matt

You need an NV3550. Plan to pay $600 or more for a good one.

I thought the NV3550 has a internal clutch slave cylinder. Mine deffinetely has a external clutch slave cylinder, Therfore I was thinking I had an AX-15 transmission. Please correct me if im wrong.

ax-15 is an internal slave.....i know cause i had 1.

NV3550 has an external slave, it's a black cylinder on the drivers side of the transmission, has a molded plastic hose going to it.

yj ax15 have internal slave, tj AX15 have external. They both will work you just have to swap the bell housing and front retainer. I dont know much about the nv3550 but according to the specs theyre about the same.

They are nothing alike.
Just share the same bolt patterns, 5 speeds, etc.

That being said, you can easily swap in an AX15 or nv3550.
Since your TJ is a 2000, Matt is right that it should be a 3550 in there.
(Or was from the factory.)
I'd go with whichever you can find cheaper. online/local.

(As long as the ax15 is from a TJ. since as he said, YJ's would have the internal slave and require a TJ's ax15 bellhousing)

I've learned something new this morning. Thanks guys for all the good information. Anyways, back to the original topic. Does anyone have one of these trans that they are selling?

I have a buddy thats about to pull the 4.0 and trans out of his 2000. His name is Bryan on this board, shoot him a pm, I'm sure he'll be willing to sell it. If you have any trouble getting ahold of him let me know, I'll see if I can help you more.
Chad
