transmission oil question

What's a good type of oil to use in my 86 4runner, and what weight should it be?

I know royal purple makes some good stuff, but what goes well with a toyota transmission.....and how much of it do i need?
 
sorry, it's the manual 5 speed

also, what do i put in the t-case.

I wanna do a fluid change but don't yet have the shop manual and don't have an owners manual either
 
:wheel:i think 4 in the trans & 2 1/2 inthe case im not sher what case you got & you can use the same oil in your dif's to factory recomends it
 
DO NOT run 75w140 in the trans, it is too heavy and will cause the synchros to shread.

80w90 dino lube is fine, though I have used Redline MTL in them before as well.

there was some speculation several years ago that some synth lube's were too "slippery" and caused issue with the sychros also, this is where the Redline MTL came into play. The info was on ORC centuries ago, may still be there I don't know.

As far as the T-case, standar 80w90 is fine in there also.

75w140 in the diffs is fine especially if you are running a locker, will quiet the ratchet action a bit

just keep in mind, the heavier oils will also cost you in gas mileage as they are thicker, you'd be surprised the differance.
 
I still have some Wynns Synthetic Custom Manual Tranny Blend sitting around i think!

It's some of the best I've ever used!
 
thats perfect it will say a lot of times what its best used for you can use the samething inyour case thay make an automatic synth. that works great to and you'll get a little better gas mileage
 
80w90 gear oil in both. Pull the fill plug on the side, and fill through the shifter hole until is runs out of the "fill hole" on the side. When oil runs out.............. It's full.


THis method works for both the T-Case and Tranny. Hope this helps. Easy as 123.
