i have a 84 chevy truck 4speed granny gear the transmission is making weird noise when i start it up an it will stop when i have the clutch put in my figuring is it out of fluid in it or least low so my question is what do i put in it i know gear oil but any specific weight or what please help wanna go play this weeknd but not till i get this fixed

Should have a square head 3/8 pipe plug about 1/2 way up on the drivers side of the transmission case and should take a 5/8 wrench to remove it. Fill it till fluid runs back out. Use 80w90 gear oil.

Sounds like some pilot bushing noise. Could be worn out? I had a similar issue on my 1986 K5 with the SM465 and a new OEM clutch kit from autozone solved it.

From what I read it sounds like when you push the clutch in the noise goes away? or do you get the noise when you push the clutch in?
There are two different bearings between the motor and trans and they give crazy screeching noises when they have issues from my experiences

ok when the clutch is pushed in, it takes pressure off the pilot bearing, and that might be why the noise goes away
when the clutch is pushed in the pilot bearing is doing it's job. if the noise goes away with the clutch in it's most likely the input bearing on the trans.

I feel stupid because another member on this forum told me what I posted back in feb 09 when I had a similar issue with my 1986 k5 that had an SM465

it all good thanks everyone for helping me i going to put some gear oil in it for now then just put all new stuff in just to know it will be good still wanna go wheeling this weekend
