Well, It started doing it about a week after I got it. Just kinda blew it though. When it's cold, it doesn't want to go in reverse at all, maybe once in a blue moon. It will go in drive and the lower gears just fine. When it gets warmed up, it will go into reverse just fine. Has plenty of fluid. I'm probably thinking im gunna have to start looking for another trans here pretty soon.

Transfer Case: NP231
Well this started happening about a month after I got it. It usually goes into 4H pretty smoothly. 4L, I have to try to engage it, put it in drive, grind it a little, and then neutral, and pop it in. going back from 4L to 4H is pretty smooth. But I'm lucky if I can get it back into 2H. I've tried the usual such as drive it in reverse a little, going down the road(sometimes this does work). Now I haven't been able to check the fluid in it because the lack of a socket or wrench big enough.

It's got 284,000 miles.

Transmission i dont really know. but on the transfercase it could be nothing more then adjusting the shifter..

That's another thing, I got up under it the other day and saw no way of adjusting it. It looks like all of the rods are fixed. Unless it might be adjustable at the handle.????

AW4s only last about 200,000 before they start acting up,so I was told when mine went out. Mine was doing something kind of the same. So if you got 284,000 out of yours, your doing good. The transfer case shifting rod should have some type of adjustment on it. The shifters are different from 242s and 231s so if you swapped in a 231 the shifter may be your problem. You may need to look a little closer.
