Hey,
I have a question for you all. I have a T176 tranny with a dana 300 attached mounted to my project. I just found a crack in the tranny thats leaking oil. My parts jeep has a T150 3 speed. I was wanting to switch the 300 to the t150 and use on my other jeep. I need to know if the 300 will work with the t150 and also is the pilot shaft the same size between the t176 and the t150?
THANKS A BUNCH!
J.D.

As far as I remember, the 150 has a Dana 20 bolted straight to it. The T-176 has an adapter between it and the Dana 300. Different patterns. Are you sure it.s not the adapter that is cracked? And no, I don't think that the T-176 and the T-150 use the same pilot bushing.
AMCJEEPMAN on this board is also in Riedsville, and I am sure he can answer this question for sure.

The Dana 300 will not bolt to the t 150. the T150 has a larger pilot bushing bore, so a different pilot bushing is used. The T150 is also shorter than the t176 and the skid plate/crossmembers are different. the holes in the frame where the skid bolts are different between the 80 and newer(t176) years and the 79 and older(t150) years. The t176/d300 is a better trail combination but the t150 is a strong tranny as is the dana 20 transfer case and are well suited to theh street.

The crack is in the tranny, it is about 8" long and runs through the spot where the skid plate and bracket mount to the tranny. Can this be welded? What are some other fixes?
Thanks guys.

The crack could most likely be welded, hard to say for sure with out seeing it. Depending on how hard you use the Jeep you could clean and "JB" weld it. this would do NOTHING for strength but may stop the leak. The tranny would have to dissassmbleded to weld properly, by someone who can weld aluminum of course. You could find another t176 case or transmission to replace it of course. All other transmissions would require adaptors(SM465,NP435, NV4500,T18, NV3550,ect) or would be a serious strength down grade (SR4, T4 & T5) and all of these would require driveshaft changes. I would plan on a rebuild & repair or replacement.
