transmission question

so im trying to help my son out and he is in texas. here is what we have.. 89 s15 gmc jimmy, 4., 700r4, 4wd bad trans missing reverse and nutral. second 92 chevy 1500, 4.3 700r4 two wheel drive. he just called me and he has a hole in the block. can the trans from the truck fit in the jimmy? and how can i explane this over the phone?
