transmission questions

my buddies dad has a jeepster with a buick 350 and what im assuming is a th350 (3 foward gears and no overdrive) he would like overdrive since he's not much into wheeling other than driving around out hunting club and the motor sounds like its going to blow up going 55mph. am i correct in thinking that a 700r4 out of a 4wd pickup/blazer etc should bolt right up? i have next to no knowledge on the subject.

basically what would be involved in swapping transmissions is what im asking?

Very possible. Be sure to check the bellhousing bolt pattern on both, some buicks had a different pattern. You might also see two different tranny mounts with this swap. Oh and dont forget the detent cable hookup .

i think the 700r4 tranny is longer, so you will need to shorten the driveshaft

there is no 700 with a BPO bellhousing. is the distributor in the front or rear of the engine?

BPO? im not sure about the distributor. ill try to remember to ask tomorrow tho.
