I have a 1987 yj with a 258, automatic trans..where can I find what the numbers mean?

My Google fu is not giving me the results, or do I need to go to the jeep service center?

both the pans have the same angle cut and the same number of bolts 14

1) PK4531005 0231 9168 <in the jeep

2) K3235220x 6622 0742 <spare that came with the jeep

87 YJ would be a Torque Flight 909 I believe.

Where do you find this information?
I can’t find anything on K3235220X...

a TF999 is fairly distinctive. Side by side you should be able to confirm pretty easily if they are same

Sorry I reposted the same question forgive me...
no worries!
I merged the two only because if you google that part number the first result was the original thread.

once we figure it out it might help save the next soul who is looking

I was going off the shifter/neutral safety switch and the bump out on the passenger side which I assume to be some kind of servo. My knowledge is only from a couple of B body cars I have had and not Jeep. My bad...

No worries, they are visually similar in a lot of ways, just sharing some info! My knowledge is from Dodge trucks so when they go talking about the other jeep transmissions I get lost as last years Easter egg

So is in yalls opinion the 904 worth a rebuild?

???Or what’s my best upgrade option???

I would like to stay with the 258, I have a 231 case with a sye and the 6 planetary
3.5 inch lift, and will be picking up an 8.8 rear..

thanks again

That's a 999 like Jody said, which is based on the 904. Both are great trannies and worth the rebuild.

727 looks similar to the 904 but has a different pan like a few posts back says, and a bulgier housing when you look at it from above. On a 904 the housing sides are more straight, like the tranny in question here.

727 is considered heavier duty and preferred by drag racers, but 904 has been run successfully by many, and is a few lbs lighter.

Looks like a 904/727 (MOPAR)

AMC bolt pattern on bellhousing.
That there is a TF999.
That's a TF999 auto trans.

A TF999 will handle a lot. I ran one for years behind a 258, then a stock 360 and then a pretty bad ass 360. They're easy to package, easy to cool, easy to adapt to

By the way. That's a 999.
