which is better 700r4 trans er the turbo 350 and which one would not use as much gas

700 would use less gas because it has overdrive.....it also have as a lower gear ratio in first gear

i have a 700 in my truck now but they seem to be junk and i never run it in over drive

700's arent too beefy in stock form and if the detent is'nt adjusted right they won't live long.

is this a street truck or trail rig? what is the drievtrain setup of the vehicle? If larger tires and stock gears, it wont get good mileage either way... a 700 setup right will work better, but in stock form it may be a toss up

I'm assuming by the user name it's a 85 model which would be a 700.

And first generation. The 2nd generations are the better ones.

a 700 is a th350 with an OD sprocket on the back end and a better first gear, essentially.

There is not much strength difference between the two, other than the mentioned TV cable.

what do you mean 2nd gen are you talking about a 4l60e?

mines got a 86 case and 85 guts if that makes sense and the guy that helped me out told me that those few years 83-87? i think dont quote me were the best of the 700s

I assume he means 88-92ish.IIRC the 4L60's started in 93-94.
