I have a Escalade for sale on MP and some dude contacts me about it yesterday.Right off the bat he wants more pics of the outside of it even though I put those pics in the ad.Just resent the ones in the post.Dude is 12 hours away so he's gonna have a transport pick it up.All this is business as usual I know folks transport cars all the time but the part that's fishy to me is he want's a walk around video of the truck, the trunk area, video of it running,a pic of the title and vin #.I looked at his FB profile and it seems legit but doesn't tell where he's from.Ill admit I'm skeptical of most things (skeptical to a fault) but does this sound right?? I've sold/shipped a ton of stuff but never dealt w a transporter,is it normal for them to want a pic of the title and vin?? He did ask if it would make a 12 hour trip and I told him probably not.Its a $1000 Escalade he's paying to have transported.I gave him my phone # for the transporter to call me but I haven't got a call yet.

Soudns pretty reasonable to me, I mean if I were buying a car sight unseen, I'd prefer to have said walk around video and such. Soudns like he's picky and knows where the trouble areas are on these vehicles. What's fishy about it? Not sure how I'd feel about a digitized version of the title... maybe pic it then black out your info.
My personal preference for any kind of thing like thsi that will involve some of my time or value is a personal conversation. Like, ask for a phone number, call and talk in person and feel him out. If he won't do that... then walk away.
but I'm not seeing any kind of risk, assuming you get your money up front etc.

Sounds like he's collecting everything he needs to make a scam ad with all of your information. That's just my skeptical nature when asking for everything under the sun for a $1000 car.

If I have to pay a bunch of money to ship a vehicle, I'll ask for additional photos, video, talk on the phone, etc to make sure I know what I'm getting. But seeing as it's a $1k vehicle I'd be a little leery. It would probably cost him another $4-500 to move it 12 hrs away.

Dude you buy and sell a ton.
Trust your gut.

Also it's $1,000....whats the BEST that could happen?
Whats the worst?
How much headache is that $1k worht

The VIN thing wouldn’t bother me...even on 70’s ford trucks I always asked for pics of title, door warranty plate and frame VIN (usually a phone call to tell seller where it is)...and make sure they match, so I don’t end up driving/shipping a glorified parts truck for the one inspector on the planet that checks that stuff. I’d be more skeptical of a guy wanting to ship a $1000 vehicle. And that’s where I’d usually flat out ask what he planned on doing with it, if he has a wrecked one with perfect XYZ to turn your $1000 vehicle into a $5000 vehicle, that would be good enough for me. But if you’re getting cash up front and it’s sitting in your bank, I’m not sure how you lose.

I ask for the same. I want the condition known BEFORE it’s handed over to a 3rd party. That way if there is damage, there is proof of condition prior to the 3rd party taking it.

I say send him video and pics, take your $1k, and move on.

My gut says somethings up but I'm willing to admit I could be wrong.

And that's reasonable.I got into that w a 90 model CC f350.The title didn't match the VIN.I had forgotten about that.As far as the title goes its not in my name (guess I should have mentioned that).Dad did some work on it and found out it had a dead cylinder and the owner signed it over for the bill. The title is still in the owners name. The only connection to me will be the MP post. When you buy like that how do you usually pay, will the transport driver bring a check/cash or do you have all that done before hand??

Thats probably because not enough people talk to him in real english... there's a self perpetuating problem here.

I would imagine it is.

Yeah, those are all the little headaches I'd be looking for...VIN/Titles don't match is potentially a deal killer. Depending on state, will your name not being on the title be a problem...could be a deal killer. Video for condition so he doesn't get cat fished on a 'perfect' $1000 vehicle...if it doesn't run in the video but the ad says it does or if the body is caved in on the side you didn't take pics of, etc etc...all potential deal killers.

Transport as a seller...I don't want to have to do anything but shake the transport guy's hand and sign whatever he needs me to sign. So I better be paid and he better be paid before he shows up. As a buyer, I've basically done the reverse of that...paid the seller and coordinated transport. If I really want to get finicky as a buyer (and I wouldn't for $1000 vehicle), I'll also hire a local appraiser to put actual eyes on the vehicle to make sure what's being represented is factual.

I had a guy attempt a scam on me using a transporter and paying by PayPal. You get paid I’m full but once the vehicle is in possession they either try and cancel payment or file a claim stating it was misrepresented. They have the vehicle and you lose have the money due to filed claim.

I would google for transport scams and see
What comes up. I almost lost a very expensive CJ8 to this.

Just my 2 cents

If the original owner was an ass, he could have easily obtained a replacement title, thus making your title null and void because you never got a new title in your name.

and now you are selling a vehicle that isn’t yours... that could be trouble too...

To be determined I suppose.Dude says he's sending cash by the driver.I understand the driver could be a friend or some fly by night outfit but do they normally do that.I wouldn't think so??
