was it me or was there a lot of trash last weekend all over the trails? i dont know what is wrong with people. we need to have some sort of system of "catching" the people who are throwing their trash (witch happens to be mostly beer cans) all over. if i get the chance to see someone throw something out of their rig or over their shoulder on a 4wheeler i will be sure to pick it up, catch up to them and trow it right back in their rig. its getting out of hand....maybe we can put trash cans on the trails and ppl using some sort of "honor system" can haul them to the trail heads when they see they are full....all we would need to do is make sure no liquid is in them. i dont know... but i do know that there are plenty of ppl tryin to shut down our fun! no need to give them a good case to use against us.

we had it very clean about a month ago. hate to see a thread like this already. i make an effort to remove trash every time i'm there for the future of the trail system.

the trash at URE is not on the ground...
Im in favor of any way possible to police the place. rigs have license plates, but ATVs don't so even if you took a video or picture you couldn't prove anything.

30-30 with a scope will stop the litter bugs. Throw a beer can down, I throw a bullet at your empty head.

I don't frequent URE as often as a lot of you. But I was there last month at the Veterans ride. I did see some trash, but not near as much as I have seen at many other trails. We did have a system set up within our poker run, that if you came back with extra trash, you got an extra card. I myself didn't jump out and get trash while driving due to my just having knee surgery. I did pic some up while we were stopped a few times. But, I was driving behind this little Jeep who's driver was well known as well as his passengers. MANY times he stopped in front of me, jumped out, grabbed up some trash and jumped back in and took off. That driver was our very own Shawn Clemmons, his passengers were Cydney and Sara Clemmons, and not to forget the unborn Robert Grey.
Now, one thing that stands out in my mind being part of managing another trail system, The Flats. For the last five or so years we have had open invites, benefits, and private club rides at our property. Every Sunday when it's coming to a close, we ride the property, to pick up trash. We have work days to do maintenance and we check for trash. The surprise here, is we actually pick up very little trash. I remember the very first invite we ever had. There were less than 10 pieces of trash found, over the entire property. That has pretty much been the norm with other invites as well.
So, within this forum, we have a small percentage of folks who actually go different places to wheel. These are Not the people, in my opinion, who are littering the trails. They are not the ones who drive off the trail system. But, they are the ones who pick up after others.
So, bringing this up here, really does no good in prevention of those littering. This is pretty much a self policing group.
I am not sure what the answer is, but I have ideas. Being in a full size rig, we usually have space to carry our own and other trash out as well. ATV's do not, so it is my opinion that there is where most of the problem lies. I do believe that if it could be emptied on a regular basis, trash cans distributed throughout the trail system at the normal gathering spots would help in the amount of trash that would not be thrown on the ground.

I do agree with Chip, we are a self policing group. It's good to have 50,000 of this same thread, Just so anybody that googles trash at Uwharrie see's how it affects the 4X4 comunity.

However I don't compalin about this particular issue any more because I am there 3-5 times a year with "Gotwood" & our kids camping & wheeling. While there we always dedicate nearly a full day to trash cleanup. This is good for the trails & it teaches our children to respect the trails & nature in general.

With that being said, I do not condone the trashing of our trails or anywhere for that matter. Nor do I condone somebody starting a thread bitching about the trash on the trails in Uwharrie but not speaking about themselves doing anything about it.

How many cans or bags of trash did the OP clean up?

If this bothers you enough start a thread about it, you need to get your hands dirty & do something about it. I heard enough talk in the last election.

This, I've seen a thread about trash every time there was a big weekend at ure. It's not that hard to carry in with some trash bags, fill them up and take it to the dumpster at the outpost. I do it along with a lot of other people, like said above the more this is brought up the worse it is making the 4x4 community look.

Great Idea! we will expect you to be responsible for your metal trash can when it's full. Youwill be there once or twice a week to drive up Kodak to make sure it's not overflowing on to the trail. Be sure to put a latch on the lid to the critters out.

OK?

A trash can wont fix the problem your still gonna have the white trash people throw there beer in the woods and get another.

Yall should'nt bust the OP's balls that bad guys. Sure it's another trash at URE thread, but at least the op is offended by it. And if ''Trash at URE'' gets googled..at least it'll bring them here to this sight, so they can read that we dont like it. If we put trash cans on the trail..chances are some knuckle heads will just knock them over for fun, and they attract to many yellowjackets.

I have nothing to say about the garbage on the trails as we already all know it is not our group, but i do have one thing to ask.

I ask of the people that do spend a day there or even just a few hours or whatever. That you then go over to Janet and let her know what you did. That counts as volunteering on the trails and she will write it down and give that info to the USFS (Terry / Debra ).

And thanks to all that have taken time out of your day to do this.

It's not that I don't like them, please re-read my post. It's that I don't start the threads or complain about them. I do something about the trash. I guess you in your way (arm chair warrior) are doing something about the trash too. Starting another thread, I know, I know the google thing.. It's cool.

Your large e-penis has really frightened me with the threat of a trash can on my head. I am really not bulling you I am making a point.

Here is is in Engrish for you;

Instead of complaining about a issue, do something about it. Your new here, hang out get to know some folks join a gang. Go for the trail work days get involved. You will be so much more productive that being that arm chair warrior. You will make many new friends & meet a few dickheads like me:D. Hell I am sure you will have the opportunity to dump that can on my head & if it's full of the trash you picked up. I will allow you to do this as long as the people watching pay & the benefits go towards cleaning & maintaining the trails at Uwharrie.:flipoff2:

Thanks for the amusement.

I agree, Jeff can be a dick head. maybe he needs to change his avatar.
That said, I suggested the trash cans, but he is right. There has to be someone who is responsible for emoting it on a regular schedule.
He may not have said it in a way that you like, but he made the point. BTW if you want wheeling friends, you need to know who you are threatening, and who their friends might be. Just saying...............
If you see trash, pick it up. If you see someone throw trash down, man up and let them know it's not acceptable. Personally, I am a smoker. I go home or back to camp with a pocket full of butts. I have walked up to someone, even friends, and picked up the butt they just threw down, picked it up, knocked off the left tobacco, and put in my pocket, without saying a word, but, the message was sent.

my idea was simple, i wanted to place a trash can and was hoping people would be smart enough and responsible enough to take them to the trail head if they say it was full. some sort of "honor system" but whatever... im not saying jeff b had a bad point. i am saying he was being a jerk about it. this is just getting retarded. it was just a thread about trying to come up with ideas and hoping if the idea was good enough others would help join in and work with it.

True. Your idea was simple. And easy, but not well thought through. To complete the cycle, it has to be placed, it has to be used, and it has to be emptied. The last part is the issue.
OK so now Jeff is a jerk. but understand this. It takes all kinds to fill this world.
Your new, we understand. Welcome to the wheeling world. Hope to see ya on the trail!

One more tid-bit of advice from "the Jerk" o_O (I prefer asshole) Don't be so thin skinned,:) I was just busting your chops a little. So now that we all know how you will react when somebody it yanking your chain. Can we get a group hug? :flipoff2: Don't let me & my smartass comments scare you off from here, lots of nice people here too, some really short ones (almost a Hobbit).
