Can i fit the e locker into the 8" third? anyone done this and/or is it fairly easy? or is it easier to retro fit the entire taco third with the locker into my 8" housing. Im not worried about the "housing studs -to -third" pattern, thats easy enough to fix. not sure of any other problems. and would the taco third be that much stronger?
looking for suggestions, thanx. rob

I believe you notch the housing for the shift fork and collar and wire it up, someone makes a wiring kit for it but i cant remember who right now.

if thats all there is to it, ill be home free! if im thinkin right, wiring is still all there to the molex, so i can get it from there. open to anyone elses suggestions as well. tia

the diagrams are online...you can also order the harness from Jim@ Inchworm gear

Hey rob the taco third is alot stronger than the standard 8inch, which is actually 7.8 inch. Anyways the ring gear is thicker plus larger diameter. The pinion uses a larger diameter higher spline count. As the for the locker you'll need to call Jim like they said and get the wiring harness and he can send you the gasket for the elocker that will show where to cut out the 8inch housing, he also sells the studs you'll need and the longer bolts for it. I think you'll be really happy with them, did you decide not to give them to your buddy?

no, jon ended up using another setup(v-6 powertrax and third) and we are going to give the lockrite he traded to me for the e locker to another good freind to get him up those hard climbs. which leaves me with the elocker from you. might as well use it, and i'm trying to find the best way to do it.
stud pattern is not an issue since im flipping my thirds for a rear engine buggy and will be changing some studs around anyway. several people have mentioned the wiring harness- is that nessecary? i assumed that it was just a matter of 12 volt hot and a ground , run thru a switch. im missing somthing???

The harness cuts the voltage down to 9 volts with the inline resistor so for long life it is needed. I was going to put it in the rear and add cutting brakes on each rear wheel for serious tight turns but with the rear engine you may not since you'll be able to do front digs anyways. What motor trans you using?

22 RE , w56, and that doubler from you. thanx, to everyone. think that writup from 96 taco will help a lot. i had no clue about the resistor. good to know.
