Everyone has heard what has happened to local apple, and peach farms. Devastating damage to the crops! The cold snap we had last week hit home too. I have noticed I have several trees, One VERY big Poplar tree, and a pretty good size Hickory tree. EVERY leaf on both of those are dead. No life to them whatsoever!
I am wondering if they will bounce back, put out new leaves or what. First time I have ever seen this.
Anyone with experience know what I should expect?

don't sweat it & don't expect much fruit they will start to green up in a couple of weeks I have seen this a few times up in Minn.

Poplar will leaf back out in ~ 3-5 weeks.
They are tough as rawhide. thats why they are such a good pioneering species.
The hickory on the other hand...it will leaf back, but probably no where near as thick as normal and expect a bumper crop of nuts over the next 2 years. The stress will cause it to ramp up reproduction activities.

Dang! I was hoping for the opposite, it's a hardhat area as it is when hey start falling. I swear the squirrels are up there throwing them at me

they probably are :) There is a squirrel in the pine tree near the driveway and he throws full pine cones down at me when he gets nervous. Then he picks them back up again, to be used later :) I thought it was just normally falling cones, but then I saw him doing it !!

He doesn't do it so much now as the first year he moved in, but still funay !!

My Japanese maples lost all their leaves during the cold spell. Wonder if they will come back? It really did not effect much of my other trees and plants.
