Trip To Moab, UT

Man I have had the same feeling coming on for about 6 months. I would love to go back, the shop is a huge limiting factor for me though. How long are you planning to stay?

Speaking for myself, we all towed last time (Oct 2010). Did it in 2.5 days, driving mostly solo there. I would love to have the buggy towed or transported the next go round though. The trip out wasn't so bad, but the trip home was nothing short of dangerous. I was out of my mind tired.

right now, im looking for a deal on a 2 car.. but it has to be a screaming deal at this point. I have not considered having a rig shipped. Camping on trail is expected.

I have a friend moving to boulder, so I could stay in that area for a couple weeks.

Man I would love to go back out there. I am still a couple of years away with the kids in college and a wedding. The four trips we made, we drove staight through, 34 hrs so we could spend more time wheeling. The trip out is fun, but as stated the trip home is a killer. We pulled a gooseneck with two rigs.

I know of a 40 ft (i think) in canton for $5500 but that was about 4 months ago and its still sitting there so u could offer less. And my plan i was thinking of is i got a friend in salt lake city i was going to hang out at his house before or after trip. And i have a friend that that lives about 50 miles from the Rubicon trail so i was going to hang out at his house before or after. And camp on the trail.

I think that is the way to do it.. I can work remote as long as i have a phone and internet, so i could stay longer and not burn as much vacation time.

We'll be heading to Pueblo, Colorado to help with a RV National Rally and then to Moab again for a few months. We have to be at the rally on July 29th. We'll be there for ten days.

I am looking into the costs of going in the fall, but I think it will be unlikely. :/

No, I'll rent another Rubicon like we did last year.

Hmm.... I would really like to... Not sure about making that trip with two youngsters, though.

I've always wondered what a good time to go in the fall would be? I'd like to get out there while the days are still long but not stupid hot.

Both times we've been was September/early October and it was great. Chilly at night and 85-ish, maybe, during the days...

edit: For the record, I'd love to go back and, maybe with the exception of Golden Spike (a 12 hour day if it is a good day), I'd be down with making the trip with two youngsters.

Yeah, the thing about going in September is that its not too hot, and all the snow in CO has melted too, so you can do some of that while you're there.

Granted, its been ten years or so, but I think it cost us less than $3500 both times. Gas was in the $2/GAL range, and we were getting 11-13 mpg. Stayed in cheap ass roach motels here and there. Fuel was by far the biggest expense.

Moab is on my bucket list. Quick math hurts though.
Pulling two rigs,
3800 miles roundtrip @ 7 mpg =543 gallons of diesel fuel x $4 per gallon = $2172
Anyone got a fuel card i can "borrow"? ;)

I would be interested in a fall trip, I would have to go in halves with someone on fuel that could haul theres and mine there, Then Id say cheapest lodging possible which would definetly be camping while there, How much time off work, a week Id say.

I'll split that fuel with ya;)
I will roll with you anytime. Me and you out west would scare the hell out of most folks.
The drive would be epic! One problem though, if i don't bring Pinky then the wife is yelling at me from the passengers seat of my rig.
Deanna rides with you and bitches about your driving = problem solved!

:lol:!!! The drive across country is half the fun! Melissa and I did 37hrs straight through to Shelby, Montana last yr. Glad we didn't have log books:D

Mel has the routine down now. Looks over at me once, closes her eyes and holds on. I think she could ride just fine with you:lol:
