Got a problem with my jeep when i'm accelerating. The engine seems to falter when i accelerate and then the check engine light comes on. It'll only come on when i mash the gas pedal. I have a 5 speed and the 4.0. My guess that its some senser gone bad but i have no idea what it might be. Anyone have any ideas?

What year is it?

My first guess for sensors would be the oxygen sensors in the exhaust line. There are a bunch of other air/fuel related emissions sensors, though.

Have you done any mods to the engine?

could be oxygen

I am thinking maybe the tps

throttle position sensor

that seems to be the first sensor to go out in the 90's model Jeeps

Kinda a stretch, but that used to happen to my brothers XJ, it eventually evolved to the engine vapor locking. After 2 weeks and every mechanic at the jeep dealership is gso working on it Turned out to be a cracked o ring in the fuel injector i think, which caused the fuel rail to fill with air.
