Surely somebody on this board has done this...

Our son's 2nd birthday is coming up. We're going with a truck theme, he seems to love trucks, as much as one can tell w/ a 2 /yo. Wife wants to make a 3d truck cake (I'm angling for a 4runner).
Anyhow, does anybody know wherre in the triad (or elsewhere) to get good ol' truck/4x4/ even basic car-themed party supplies - plates, napkins, banner, etc?
it's amazingly hard to find this. Seems all "themed" stuff now is always a trademark - Bob the builder, Disney, etc, or a movie ("Cars" anybody?). Just want f-ing generic silly little trucks!

Been there done that!
It was 4 years ago but we found all sorts of stuff at Party City. There are 5+ in the Charlotte area, not sure about Triad though.

We did a mix of truck/jeep/monster truck stuff. hats, plates napkins cake ornament etc.

Found your napkins.

Ok I don't know if I'm an idiot, or the invasion of christmas supplies... but I struck out at both of these places.
Party city has damn near everything, esp trademark supplies... Bob the Builder, Spiderman, Spngebob, Cars, Sesame St, etc. Even found some fire trucks. But no 4x4s. Ergh!
Probably 1/3rd of the store is Christmas junk though, I wonder if this has compressed the "usual" inventory.

I'm wondering if the theme may be have to be shifted to "construction trucks" sicne that's the closest I can find.
Which is a bummer since the wife has already agreed to the 4Runner cake!

He's 2, don't worry about matching everything for a theme. He won't get it anyway. Take it from someone whose wife really wants a theme for every birthday, he won't notice.
Go to Big Lots or the like and find a bunch of cheap toy trucks, place them on the table, make the cake. Buy some generic plates/napkins and let each kid invited take home the centerpeices (toy trucks).

My wife does that crap... Our son cares about 2 things when it comes to parties...

#1 - Will my friends think the "theme" is cool?
#2 - WHAT DID YOU GET ME?

:flipoff2:

My son just turned 2, we almost had to switch our theme from Bob the Builder to the generic construction trucks. No you're 2-yr old won't care, but I couldnt convince my wife that he wouldnt care if the cake toppers were generic bulldozers, cranes, backhoes, steamrollers compared to Muck, Lofty, Scoop and Roley. Party City didnt have 'official' cake toppers, but I was finally able to find mini diecasts at Target. Wifey was ready to return all the party hats, bags, banners, etc because the cake figures wouldn't match
I was pretty sure Party City in Greensboro had Monster Trucks back in late October.

Thanks guys. Yes, I know he won't care.
In the interest of full discolosure.... his father just happens to have a birthday the day before, which is also the day of the party... and this one is "the opening of a new decade"... so admittedly that cool truck cake might not just be with the boy in mind....
But yeah, looks like it'll prob be just construction trucks or whatevr we throw together and life goes on. Clearly what needs more attention is the idea of having 22+ people in our house, including some young-uns...

You forgot #3- Will dad get drunk, take off his pants, sit in the front yard and yell at the leaves as they fall...

...again.:flipoff2:

Are you sure we aren't married to the same woman?

Oh, and you know all of the names of the characters from Bob the Builder...

BTW, does anyone else think Bob and Wendy have a little "side action" going on?
