hey guys

two buddies and I are going camping this weekend and are trying to find a nice, primitive spot to go. The trip is actually for my buddy's bachelor's party. He'd like to camp somewhere close to water, but it isn't a must. We were thinking about going up to Mt Mitchell to camp because of the mild temperature this time of year. Although i'm not opposed to going to a more layed out campground, I'd love to find somewhere kind of off the beaten path where we can head with the jeep and not really be up against any other campers. I'd love for it to not be paved, but its not a big deal if it is. Do you guys have any suggestions? We can either head towards the Boone area or anywhere in western NC. The higher the elevation the better, and the more primitive the better. Let me know what you guys think!

Curtis Creek is fantastic, but probably busy this time of year.

Up on 105, that's between the linville side of Lake James and Linville Falls. Several prinitive camp sites right on the road.

Mortimer. go up 181N and turn right near where the brown Mountainlights, look out is.

Gods Country, on the left going up 181 before you get to where you would turn right into Mortimer

Graham County

Have any of you guys camped at balsam mountain campground? It sounds pretty nice, and the elevation is around 5500ft, so it would be decently comfortable

Do you mean Black Balsam in the Shining Rock Wilderness?

It's nice... but it's probably also busy this time of year. Blueberries are getting ready to come in, too.

My wife won't do "Primitive." She has to have a bath house not too far. And water. Electric is even better. We can set up the portable 5'x8' screen and LCD projector and speakers for movies.
No camper but a 10'x20' cabin tent, air mattresses. We must take 300 pounds of camping gear. :D

Sounds like what my friends and I used to do in my backyard when we were little. We'd run a drop cord out to my tent and take my tv and nintendo out there. very primitive haha
