Ok so I have a bit of an issue with the Turbo 350 I stuffed into my buggy. After getting the trans in, full of fluid, shifter hooked up, and so on, i realized that i was only getting Park, Neutral and reverse. The other gears were there but couldnt be reached with my cable shifter. After unhooking the shift cable i found that there was about and inch of play in each direction when moving the shift mechanism.

So i dropped the pan and noticed that the backing nut for the shift mechanism was loose. I was going to tighten this down and button it back up but i decided to take it all apart and found that the square hole on the internal shift bracket is now a bit rounded.

What Happened? Where do i buy a new bracket? or How do i fix the current bracket? and how do i prevent this from happening again?

the first step in preventing it from happening is to not tighten the linkage with air tools(i'm not saying you did but that is where it normally starts)
i should have one laying around, let me check and i will get back to you.

Yeah I didn't do the tightening on this one but thats not to say whoever had the trans before me didnt crank on it with air tools. If you had one that would be great. Figured I could buy one online but so far no luck. Was going to check a couple of local transmission shops next. Should I use lock tight on the backing nut inside the transmission when I put it back together?

if you cant find one stop by our shop in hendersonville. 1st gear transmission. it's near lowe's. we will have one in the back.
