Turning around leaf springs?

I need to move the rear axle back about 6 inches on my ranger. The springs have a offset center pin like a XJ. Would turning the springs around and running the short end on the back with the shackle cause any problems or is there a resson that the shackle is always on the long end?

having the short side of the spring to the front of the rear axle helps to fight axle wrap. But to answer your question, I'm not too familiar with rangers, but you should be able to flip the spring around for more wheelbase. Be prepared though, you'll probably need a traction bar.

I had to run a traction bar before so thats no big deal. I will be going to a dual t-case and will need a new shaft with it but the longer wheel base will keep it about the same length. I'm going to swap on a ex-cab and want to move the axle back so it is still centered in whats going to be left of the bed after cutting the front off. It will be nice on long rides to have some more leg room and dry storage behind the seat.

Slim, I'm running XJ Rears Turned around backwards on my CJ, as is Noah. Granted he's had his CJ out more than I've had mine... (Shut your mouth Caver) But as mentioned more wrap is the down side and a traction bar will take care of wrap.

word....LOL

Caver does like to always chime in....

have you guys had a problem bending the driver's side main leaf? mine is bent about 4-5" behind the hanger. travis's (tw89yj) was bent in the same spot when i met him.

But it has been holding up very well. The first few runs I took it on with this setup, I was going through a set of springs every 2 or 3 trips. I added an extra main and they have held up much better. I've probably got 25 weekends on the set that is on it now.

Bent my passanger side XJ main leaf on the waterfall at Callalantee into an L. Added an extra main like tw89yj and haven't had another problem. Yet :)
