If you are using a Mac, the best program is Mac DVD Ripper Pro. It rips and converts automatically to m4v which is pretty similar to mp4. You can play it on just about any device except an xbox 360.
So, any suggestions for a good (free) ripping program that will rip commercial DVDs?
Disclaimer: I've purchased all of these DVDs, I'm making digital copies for the same use but in another format. So, we aren't breaking any copyright laws here.
I use handbrake to convert to mp4 for streaming to the Xbox. Some of the latest movies produced by certain studios require some manipulating but most will rip with handbrake. Disney movies are one if the trickiest.
Lol. You'll be fine. Google is your friend on this subject. Just be ready to have 2 or 3 ripping programs available for when one doesn't work. If you were closer, I would walk you through it.
Any good suggestions on a program that will work for these newer DVDs?
One vote for AnyDVD
I saw good reviews for WinX Platinum
Any others?
Paying for the program isn't a huge deal as long as its affordable, but cheaper is better. I'd rather pay a few $ for a program for it to be user friendly, safe, and quick than a free program that is cumbersome and takes 2 hours per DVD.
I thought I read somewhere that Disney DVD's included a free digital download, which is what I was hoping to use to put mine on my Plex Media server at home. So far, I've not been able to do so, though, and I can't find anywhere that supports this free digital download mirage I must have seen.
Some Disney DVDs have a free download, but its a little more expensive than the standard DVD.
I just ripped Tangled using Amerisoft DVD ripper software and it worked great. I tried out the free trial version and it was fantastic. It had a watermark on the video but it was just fine to test the ability of the software. I just purchased the software to remove the watermark. We'll see.
