I've swapped out my TJ Dana 44 drums for disk off of a '95 zj. How do I get the rears to hold better now? The front will lock but the rear will allow me to roll backwards down a steep grade. It can be pretty unsettling.

Any adjustments that can be made?

Yep the discs require more flow, maybe. Depending on which internet legend you believe.

There is a mod to you master cylinder where you remove a plungerbehind the spring.
I researched it on the TJ, but then found out the Jeep used the same part number for master cylinders on disc/drum as they did on later disc/disc setups so never completed.

@jodytreadway

Can give the propert terminology...

Proportioning valve.

Did disc brake models use a different prop valve? If so, there's your answer.

wait now,you said the rear won't hold...are you questioning the adjustment for the parking brake?
I did the same swap on mine and I had a prop valve out of a zj on stand by in case i needed it.Luckily I didn't and my discs work great.Now remember,drum brakes need 10 psi to keep the shoes out while discs only use 2 pounds.You and I both should have had dragging rear brakes but mine actually rattle with no residual pressure.Touch the brakes and it's a STOP! Wonder if there is alot of air still in your lines.Are the bleeders on the upper end of the caliper?

As Sgt. questioned - Parking brake, I was wondering, how do you know the rear isn't holding, While you have the Front, Locked up? Unless you found a way to slide backwards down a hill, with the front locked.
Maybe We are talking - Parking brake, but the "Hat" type, usually work well.:confused: The guys Are right about the porp-valve, Different on 4-wheel disc.

Sorry I said MC when I should have said Prop valve.

There is a nut on the front of the prop valve, you remove it and there is a spring and plunger behind it. You remove the plunger for rear discs. However MOPAR sells the same prop valve for all TJs whether rear drums or discs.

This covers it well:
