I can tell you for a FACT that what happened at Carolina for over 20 years absolutely did NOT happen at "90% of other schools". In fact, I'd bet that in the ACC, outside of maybe Clemson and FSU (not considering the newer ACC schools), none of that academic stuff happened ANYWHERE.

How do I know? Same way anyone who follows this stuff knows, if they pay attention. NC State was investigated and roto-rootered six ways from Sunday back in 89-90, after the book of lies called Personal Fouls came out.
In it, State and Jim Valvano were accused of academic shenanigans, point shaving, rigged drug test, a "special fund" that paid players, bought them cars, and many other allegations.

State got so much heat that they INVITED the NCAA in to investigate. Know what they, and about 5 other separate, hostile investigations found? Essentially, not a damned thing. They found that players were selling their complimentary game tickets and extra shoes that a team manager was giving them for some spending money. Not one bit of academic misconduct at all. No cars. No drug test issues.

Much less something like at UNC, where multiple schools at the university were involved in outright fraud that was started solely to keep players eligible. One of their players, in his last semester there, took 4 courses....all fake ones that required no work or class time. He made the Dean's List that semester. And helped UNCheat win the national title that year. Probably pretty easy to get ready for basketball when you have absolutely no classes to attend or do work for....and he wasn't the only one. This went on for YEARS, back to the 80's.

Anyone wants to discuss it and disagree, we can discuss it, very civilly....and you will lose the argument, and badly, because the facts are not on your side. The true facts are there...all you have to do is look at the Wainstein report and look at the attachments of all the emails and see for yourself.

There's a reason that every expert on this stuff has said this is by FAR the biggest and most egregious cheating scandal in the history of the NCAA.

No wonder UNC was able to recruit more academic non-qualifiers than anyone all those decades, and still graduate 97% of them and NEVER have one flunk out of become academically ineligible......in other words, do something that was absolutely impossible to do that has never been done anywhere else.

Meanwhile, at State a few years ago, true freshman CJ Leslie skipped a class in his first couple of weeks at school....and got called to lunch with the freaking Athletics Director, Debbie Yow to talk about it.
Yeah, that happens everywhere....not. And during the same time frame, Carolina admits a kid that neither South Carolina nor Clemson could get admitted.

What's really funny about the "everyone does it" excuse we now hear from Cheater fans is, they never said that crap before Carolina got exposed. No, they Lorded that graduation rate over you after UNC beat your favorite team with their players that didn't have to go to class to stay eligible. Said "UNC does it the right way....the Carolina Way".

Yeah, the Carolina Way.....To Seem, Rather Than To Be.

Nope, just stating facts. If you are a fan of college sports, it does suck to have your school basically implode its athletics programs over what was essentially nothing, and it was driven by the Board of Governors that was primarily populated by grads of your main rival.

Oh, and then at the same time, your rival goes into "full cheat mode" and admits anyone who can fog a mirror, as long as they can dunk. while other teams tried to win with actual student athletes. Then they hand out degrees for playing ball, and brag about their great graduation rate, all while kicking the crap out of the entire conference and winning multiple titles. THEN, they brag the whole time about how they do it better than anyone else.......and now, the truth is exposed: It was all a lie. And what's REALLY funny is that NOW, the UNCheat folks want to claim "everyone does it". Sorry, but not like you folks did it.

So yeah, I am getting a good little bit of satisfaction over that. I bet Ron is, too...since current ACC Commissioner and then-UNC AD Swofford was the one who called for the ACC to add to the NCAA's punishment of Clemson back in the early 80's. The same Swofford who led UNC when they instituted the academic cheating program. Ironic, that.

And I will have an even bigger smile when the NCAA punishment finally comes, and the championship banners come down, and the wins are vacated. Nope, no butt hurt, but I do like to see justice done, especially when it's been a long, long time coming.
