I have a weight distributing hitch that I used when my Tahoe was my tow rig. Now I have a 2500 dodge, so my question is, what hitch setup should I use? Should I use the wieght distribution hitch with the arms (like it is intended to be used)? Should I just use the hitch with out the arms? Or should I just use a regular draw bar and ball?

Some specs: tow rig is a 96 2500 Dodge V10 long bed 4x4; trailer is approx 23ft from end to end and weighs approx 2500 lbs; Jeep is the one listed in my sig approx 4500 lbs. So tow weight is approx 7000 lbs.

I still use the arms when I tow with my 2500 , it's supposed to help with trailer sway (which you shouldn't need to worry about if your trailer's loaded correctly)...but I run 'em anyway.

Yea if you have the WD hitch I'd go ahead and use it. It will level the load and put some weight back on the front axle of the tow rig so the steering wont feel as light.

I really need a WD hitch but I'm getting by for now without. The hitch on the truck, the drop and the ball are all rated WAY over the weight I'm pulling though. I was at the grand slam BTW with the blue F250 tow rig and the old big ford truck. I dont know if you remember me or not.

You can use the hitch without the arms. See how it does. Sway is a loading issue. The reason they are used on camper alot is because you can't move the weight around. On an open hauler you can. Just play with it and see what happens.

I definitely remember you. I remember you had some issues with the rear suspension, did you get that all squared away?

Yea I accidentally put more arch into my left rear spring:rolleyes: I redid the rear spring hangers and used a shorter shackle on the left to get the truck to sit level for now so I could finish a few easy runs to URE with my crew for the rest of the year. I should have had traction bars to keep the spring from getting jacked up but Im gonna convert to 4-link and coils after URE closes this year so I'll be ready for harlan next August I hope.

Awesome man. When you heading to URE next?

We'll be going up not this weekend but the next (oct 23) for a day run on Saturday. We'll probably be at the outpost around 10 am if you want to hook up with us shoot me a pm. Our group will be me, my dad's 88 bronco on 38s, a cherokee on 35's and possibly a grand on 33's.
