Saw an old U haul type van (95) with an 11k GVW. It was already converted to an RV type deal with A/C, shower, tanks, stove, and beds.

Can anyone say what this beast would need to be registered as? Would it need to be weighted for towing a trailer, etc?

Along the same lines, would a real RV need to be weighted if towing a trailer/rig behind it? Never owned a camper, so I'm in the dark on this.

look for links to people that convert busses to RV's. I know water (usable and waste) is a main point.

I think that Chip or Yager have some experience with the RV conversion process, maybe they will chime in... I think Yager actually had a Uhaul at one time.

this is the description from NC DMV Title Manual:

HC House Car
- Self propelled vehicles equipped with permanent living and sleeping facilities and used for camping
activities classified as private passenger vehicles. The body style of these vehicles will be designated as house cars.

A house car must provide at least 4 of the following facilities:

1. Cooking
2. Refrigeration or ice box
3. Self contained toilet
4. Heating or Air conditioning
5. Portable water supply system including a faucet and sink
6. Separate 110-125 volt electrical power supply or an LP gas supply

A conversion of a bus or truck to living and sleeping facilities and used for camping requires the certificate of title to be surrendered for correction of the body style.

Vehicles of this class that are not permanently converted to living or sleeping facilities are classified as property carrying vehicles and the license fee is assessed on the basis of gross weight.
* Need length of motor home
