u joint steering swap on k5

needing info on steering shaft swap....i have a 76 k5 running soon to be tons hydro assit and crossover...rag joint is junk and been reading i can use a cherokee steering shaft with a u-joint... what year trucks does the shaft need to come from...any info will help

did i also read correct that if my shaft dont unbolt at the firewall ill have to swap my cloumn to one that will???

i'm not sure about that. i have an 88' and i got a shaft out of a mid 90's xj and it bolted right in (i may have had to enlarge the bolt hole slightly)

You don't have to change the column. I have a xj shaft aying around if you still need one also. $20.00

I had to drill a thru hole in the XJ shaft to match the hole in the column end on my 83 I originally used the pinch bolt on the XJ shaft and it worked loose but that's another story
