U-pull it junk yards in Charlotte?

THere is one on North Tryon St in Charlotte near Tarheel 4WD, but I've never been. They have billboards up at the dirttrack at Lowes Motor Speedway, so maybe if you look up sponsors for the speedway, you'll find them.

My experiences at pullapart have been very poor. You have to pay to go in, and there was nothing worth getting. It looked like the trucks and suvs had been moved through every junkyard from california to here, and then stuck because they couldnt' sell anything.

I know it's a bit out of your preferred range, but I've had great experiences with Miller's Auto Salvage in Fort Mill. Very nice and helpful people, great prices as well.

It's 50/50. every one and their cousin has gone over the cars before you got there. Sometimes, it hasn't been there long, and they have what you need. Their inventory does include a date the vehicle got on the lot. Can't beat the prices though.

Its what a dollar to get on the lot?
And as said, get ther when they are dropping off trucks and you win, late and you lose.

Shoot I've found plenty of stuff at the one in charlotte. Just got to know what to look for and it also helps to save a specific car for them to notify you when it comes in. Cuase the usually get raped fast.

How about Dave's Auto Salvage in Huntersville?

They used to sponsor my dirt track car in the mid-90's. I know we use to go out there and pull the parts ourselves before we were sponsored.

They may not even be around anymore, I haven't been up there since I moved back to the beach in '97.

Sorry I'm no help!

You have to pay to get in....its the cost of a drink at the gas station, poor excuse. You can get axles for 75 dollars all day and can pay a mexican to take it out for hardly anything(sorry but its true). Go online and search what you're looking for, find the vehicle you might think will work and they show the date it was dropped off in the yard. If its been there for more than a month or two its probably stripped. Bottom line, if they have what you want its probably cheaper than anything you'd find anywhere else and the money you would save vs the dollar fee is well worth it. If they don't have anything then you'll be a couple coins short in the change tray.

I will say that the prices are great at Pullapart, and more than cover the fee, IF you find something worth getting. But there is another place within 5 miles that is free and you are free to roam around. I enjoy just going and looking around at the old/weird/neat stuff, so I was disappointed at Pullapart.

^^ Care to tell the name of said place? Ive gone to pullapart several times, and must admit, they have saved my butt a few times when im in a pinch for something like an axle shaft. But then again, many times ive been and found nothing and left empty-handed.

Getting to a vehicle in the first few days is key. I was there about a year ago looking for 8 lug roller tires. The mexican workers set a '97 F350 down off the forklift almost right in front of me. I was pissed when I watched them flatten the back 2 tires just to get it to set right. I was thinking about tires that day and it didn't even cross my mind until days later that I could've had a $75 dana 60 from it.

yeah, where are some other lots around here?
I got to Pullapart quite a bit.

Really used to just walk and pick and pull what I wanted.
Then I would go with a small list and call people for what they needed. Made a little dough on the side.
Then when I 'needed' some stuff, I went and didn't do so well.
Ever since then its been 50/50 - take what I want and if I have time I might spend more time on a vehicle.
But last time I went.... I went in knowing that I could walk out with nothing. I got lucky. I got all I needed for replacements and spare parts.

I will tell you that you can get leaf springs from some GM-Chevys out there but most of the yota axles are stripped clean by the time I see 'em.
Sometimes you'll get lucky and still get the shafts but no pumpkin. 'Yo No Hablo Jeep' so I have no advice there.
If any of you guys are into benzes or beamers, you can make a killin rebuilding shit. I went one time with a few other guys and they pulled half an engine, a tranny, a rear axle and spent about 200 and planned on making a few grand after all was said and done. People don't touch them Euro cars out there. Just gotta know what you're looking at.
