Unclaimed Cash Site

Thanks for the push and reminder! I found 53 shares of GE there in 2020, from an estate closed in 2017. At that time, GE was trading a very low point of 31, and it was about a break-even with what it would cost to retrieve, and decided to just let it go.

Today, GE is 247.05.... now it's definitely worth the $$ and hassle to get it. It looks like they streamlined the claim process, too, for my situation. May not have to re-open the estate to process the claim.

My mom got back a hundred bucks or so from a security deposit on an apartment she lived in in chapel hill almost 40yrs ago.

Weird. I have one on there that I could swear I have already gotten a check for in the past. Oh well. Try again.

It also opened a can of worms. There are two from insurance policies with my father's name who has been dead 20 years.

I've checked mine and my wife.

Found nada. But I've searched this site before a few years back.

Found my sister-in-laws though. And mother-in-laws.

Well, FML. It "was" 53 shares of GE. But the state sold it off (which they do with stocks after holding for 3 years). Back during the covid bust and before the 8:1 reverse and GE was trading under ten bucks. So, there's about 450 bucks sitting there. Not enough to be worth the hassle, so the state can keep it.

TIL you and I have different ideas of the value of $450.

Well, it's one of those things... An estate that's been closed almost 10 years, and there are more hoops to jump thru if its over 5 years. So, either a lot of time (low $/hour) , or pay my lawyer a grand, and I net a negative 550.

No win situation.
