Underdrive?

I was just tooling around online looking at parts, and ran across an underdrive kit for suzuki sidekicks, etc. No, I don't have one, but I was just curious, how do they work? Do they eliminate the need for aftermarket ring and pinion or is it similar to regearing a transfer case?

Its just a reduction box says its a 1.5:1 ratio so your trans output shaft spins 1.5 times while only spinning your tcase input shaft 1 time. It probably uses a planetary gearset for the reduction but I'm not sure since I've never seen one in person. It would deffinately help going down the road with stock ring and pinions and would make the stock low range seem like a lower ratio also.
