Unemployment Paying More than Regular wages?

I keep hearing that the unemployed can make $662 per week to stay home so no one wants to work. I've known that this has been happening to some extent for a while now but that it's gotten a lot worse since the Plandemic. I've never gotten a unemployment check so only know what I hear. I thought that to get it you had to be let go from a job and actually had to have had a job before getting it. I know that as an employer I would document issues with bad workers when it came time to let them go so that I had grounds for termination and wouldn't have their claims go against my Employment Security account. And if there was an adjudication, I usually won and the former employee didnt get benefits.
So I guess now anyone can file for unemployment and get it for no good reason?

Maybe some business owners can give a better synopsis, but from my interactions with site managers and owners in the last few months, just about everyone is having trouble filling entry level jobs. The general consensus is people would rather stay home and collect and play the system than get off their ass and work.

I know when I got "furloughed" last year from mid May to mid August it was pretty easy to collect through NCDOL. Having never filed for unemployment before, I was shocked at how easy it was to just keep it rolling. The $600+ a week though if I remember correctly was pre tax. Most of these younger people collecting that are going to get bent over the coals on their taxes next go round.

LOL... You might be surprised. Depending on individual circumstances, it's possible that they'll get back any taxes they paid in the prior year, and get additional "refunds" on top.

like @StretchASU said finding anyone for entry level jobs is gone. we have luckily been able to hire 3 in the last year. 2 in the last month ( still to be determined if they are worth a shit). during that time we have "hired" 6 more guys that never showed up for the first day. Most people seem to think they are gonna get 20 an hour for showing up.

My worthless sister who lives on Section 8 housing and every other form of government assistance under the sun got a tax refund this year. She hasn't had a job in months and has no interest in getting one.

I basically worked two full time jobs June - December of last year. Because I actually worked and contributed to society, I get punished by owing about 1500. Nice.

along the same lines, anyone find the "stimulus checks" to be as offensive and as much of a scam as I do? I get one of these stupid checks in the mail during the same week that they confiscate far more than that amount out of my paycheck.. They take enough from me to support another family. I think most people do not recognize that it is all a scam. If gubmint was serious about "economic stimulus" they would suspend the income tax entirely (which is an unconstitutional tax in the first place, but that's a different argument :) ).

Saw this yesterday in an Arby’s drive thru

We have several restaurant customers that have had to reduce their hours because of labor shortages. One has 3 restaurants and they completely shut down the dining room at one location so they could staff the other two.

My dad had two interviews scheduled for today, neither of them showed up.

I lost a job before the pandemic and applied to unemployment. Got $350 a week prior to taxes and had to jump through more hoops than reasonable to be eligible. I have paid into the system for 30 years and it took a huge effort and documentation to get 13 weeks of benefits. Post pandemic they are getting twice that for just working a day and have little to no documentation. Move government handouts to make them reliant on the government and vote more of their crap in.

There are tons of caveats, the folks receiving the most benefits are making the equivalent of $50k/yr all in. That's kids subsidies, that's food stamps, that's unemployment, stimulus, tax refunds, etc etc. That being said, it's not uncommon for me to see folks get hired, walk out during orientation, sit in their car the rest of the day, then see an unemployment letter the next week, claiming a layoff due to Covid...and it's been absolute hell disputing those cases, and I probably only have a 50% win rate on those, with video proof and proof of active recruiting. I have temp staffers that claim unemployment against the staffing agency and my company. I have another active case that was a worker's comp case that closed 18 months ago...settlement was paid and as a result a resignation letter was signed...the lady applied for unemployment with 'covid layoff' as the reason, and me as the last employer. I'm on my 3rd appeal for that case. I had noticed unemployment cases were getting more difficult to win prior to Covid, but it's downright ridiculous now. There are a lot of businesses out there that wouldn't fight unemployment to begin with. If you only have a couple claims a year or have an amicable split, it's not worth paying a higher dollar head to spend the time on it. Now with Covid, I have a full time HR person that's consumed by unemployment requests...to the point where some aren't getting disputed because there's not enough time. If you figure I'm just a 200 man shop, but in the last 14 months, I'm averaging 10 new faces a week, with a 10% retention rate...that's easily 500 people that end up looking for unemployment. And that's just my single anecdotal story.

During our lock down last year I had to furlough my entire team. A large portion of whom make roughly $12/hr- $480/wk before taxes and benefits. It was a concern of mine that many wouldn’t return because they were getting paid more to stay home.

luckily they were bored after two months and wanted something to do.

Anyone needing stimulus assistance should have to apply for it. When the application is accepted, they ought to be given a job. once all the jobs are filled, then let’s look at it. Damn govt. must be blind. Jobs are EVERYWHERE!!

That is racist.

A friend of mines wife is a sub teacher and she was getting like $650/week for not working. He said that was more money than she had made her whole life.

Places are begging for help around here.I talked to a guy the other day that’s the shop fireman for a local trucking company. He said they were so desperate fir help they had stopped drug testing.

The shop I left in NJ still hasn't found a replacement. No one wants to work. I had gotten let go from my previous shop(11years ago) to collect unemployment I had to go to a training class every other day and show proof that I was actively seeking work every day just to get 1/3 of what I was being paid. Last year a buddy took unemployment to hike the PCT (works for family) he made $1200 a week to hike... He still went back to work

Find out more about this program. Sounds like something my family would enjoy. Wonder what the minimum age is? Maybe we could get something for the kids too.
