Anyone here a well educated Unimog Axle guy?
If anyone has read my thread in General Tech my Senior Design Group (ME student at NC State), is in the process of redesigning a half shaft for a military tactical vehicle and we're interested in the Dual-Cardan Joint utilized in the Steer Axle from a Unimog.
My primary question is whether or not the joint has a centering mechanism to maintain CV or if it simply relies on the fact that both shafts are fixed and the centering yoke pivot point remains in the steering axis.
If anyone has some Unimog Axles on their rig please post some close up pictures of this joint and ANY markings that may be located on it.
I have already contacted Expedition Imports as well as some of my connections with Daimler to see if I could get any more information. But local connections are better than speaking to someone overseas. If anything a manufacturer of the joint itself would be our biggest asset, as the shaft itself is welded and produced by MB and I'm sure they source the joint from some other German company rather than producing them themselves.
